Our Story
Established in 2017, JTF operates according to the tenets of “justice tourism”, that is, tourism that holds as its central goals the creation of economic opportunities for the local community, positive cultural exchange between host and guest through one-on-one interaction, the protection of the environment, and the encouragement of the conservation of cultural and natural heritage.
At Justice Tourism Foundation, we have transcended from seeing tourism as a vehicle purely for revenue generation to an integrated sustainable development tool that can be used to promote the rights of host communities, secure livelihoods of host communities, protect and advocate for the protection of resources, promote peace through exposing cultures, and reduce prejudices among different people. We believe travel is not just travelling for fun, it is when people travel to learn, help, and empower an absolutely undisturbed and virgin natural landscape.
We’re working towards a more sustainable future – one characterized by economic justice, socio- cultural, and environmental sustainability to maintain and preserve the ecological integrity of the environment and contribute to local community development, protected parks, cultural preservation, and the engagement of millions of travelers who want to make the world a better place through their choices of where and how they travel.
At Justice Tourism Foundation, we offer Socially Conscious, Environmentally and Culturally Friendly Travel Experiences for the diverse, adventurous explorer united in a desire: to not only experience a destination, but to truly experience a culture and connect with its people, visiting unexplored, off-the-beaten path destinations, that provide an opportunity to give back, and make a meaningful difference in the communities they visit.

A Word from Our Founder, James

I founded Justice Tourism Foundation as a new approach to engaging with social impact, with a foundational belief that empathy is a human instinct, but requires firsthand contact. When you see someone in pain or in danger, it is your instinct to help them, rather than turning away and perpetuating suffering.
It all began with a simple question. How can so much money be spent by travelers, yet the people who live in these destinations where tourism activities take place remain poor and continue struggling with the daily invasion of their gardens by the elephants, chimpanzees, and other wildlife?
I saw the potential to use travel to transform the communities we visited and the travelers we engaged. I saw an opportunity to view each traveler not as our customer, but as a seed of positive change in the world. I combined what was powerful from my own experiences in social justice activism and nonprofit work and designed small groups and private journeys with an arc of six to twelve-day journeys that combined impact and integration in a way that had the potential to be truly transformative: a real chance to experience big central emotions like gratitude, oneness, and love.
